Anti-snaking stabilisers explained

There is a moment every caravanner dreads: the caravan starting to weave on its own and building up the movement. This has a name, snaking, and an ally, the anti-snaking stabiliser.

How it works

A friction stabiliser, or one built into the hitch head, creates resistance that checks the start of the weave. The outfit becomes calmer in crosswinds or when a lorry passes.

What it does not do

It fixes neither bad loading nor an overload. The foundation is still good balance and respecting the towing capacity. Check the latter on the page, for example the Toyota RAV4, and compare with the 2,000 kg ranking.
