Anti-snaking stabilisers explained
16 May 2026
Snaking is that side-to-side weave of the trailer that builds up on its own. An anti-snaking stabiliser is there to damp it.
How it works
A friction stabiliser or a stabilising hitch head creates resistance that checks the start of the weave. It makes the outfit calmer in crosswinds or when a lorry passes.
What it does not do
It does not fix bad loading or an overload. The foundation is still good balance and respecting the towing capacity. Check the latter on the page, for example the Toyota RAV4, and compare with the 2,000 kg ranking.
