7-pin or 13-pin towing electrics: which to choose

The wiring kit carries lighting and signals to the trailer. The choice is between 7 and 13 pin.

7 pin

7 pin covers the basics: lights, brake, indicators. It is enough for a small luggage trailer or a bike rack.

13 pin

13 pin adds caravan functions: permanent live, habitation battery charging, reversing light, fridge. It is the modern standard for a caravan. 7-to-13 adapters exist, but the right kit from the start is better. On the car side, check capacity first, for example on the Skoda Karoq page.
